The Highland Park community dates back to 1947. These days you’ll find highly desirable homes, some with views of downtown or Lake Austin, and the national Blue Ribbon school Highland Park Elementary. It’s just off MoPac Expressway, making for easy access to downtown. It sits near some of the cornerstones of Austin, including the Texas National Guard Camp Mabry, the Bright Leaf Nature Preserve and Perry Park (known for its events such as the Easter Egg Hunt and Movie Nights).

Highland Park Elementary is a national Blue Ribbon School. Lamar Middle School, for grades 6 through 8, is a fine arts academy. Residents in some areas can attend Casis Elementary School, which has an exemplary rating, O’Henry Middle School, named a school to watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, and Stephen F. Austin High School, known as Austin High, founded in 1881 and the oldest continuously operating high school in the state.
